New techniques in the conservation and analysis of plant genetic resources. Focusing on carob species (ERASMUS TRAINEESHIP)

This traineeship is focused on the phenological and genetic characterization of carob species developed in semi-arid areas and collected in the germplasm collection at the Agricultural Experimental Farm of the University of Catania. Genetic analysis will be conducted to assess the DNA quality extracted from carob fruits and processed material and its genetic variability between different genotypes. Protocol of in vitro culture for carob explant will be set up to plan an efficient plant resource conservation system. Agronomical aspects such as fruit yield and quality will be evaluated.
