AI for 5G Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC)

Prof. PALZZO Sergio

Multi-Access Edge Computing (MEC) represents one of the key-enabling technologies for 5G, as it brings computation, storage, and services at the edge of the network, very close to the users. As opposed to the traditional Mobile Cloud Computing, MEC promises to support huge numbers of users and to enable a wide variety of new scenarios, like Virtual Reality services, Vehicular Communications, Remote surgery, Ultra-low delay communications. However, moving the computation at the edge implies several issues, like the scarcity of computational resources, the need of proper resource allocation and orchestration and of distributed management policies. Possible research topic may revolve around solving the aforementioned issue, by means of model-based, AI-based or mixed approaches.
