Erasmus Traineeships - Incoming Students Guidelines

These guidelines are addressed to university students, of all levels (Ph.D. students included), selected under the EU Erasmus Plus Programme for a mobility period.

The programme enables students to spend a traineeship period in an university structure, enterprise or organisation in Catania. Students receive an Erasmus grant from their own institution and the traineeship period is recognized in their academic career.

The University of Catania accept Erasmus Traineeships incoming students both within Inter-institutional Erasmus Traineeship Agreements already signed between the sending institution and UNICT, and within Ad-personam Erasmus Traineeship Agreements. In both cases, a pre-acceptance letterissued by the hosting department/structure in Catania has to be obtained by the foreign student in order to get the final acceptance letter from the International Relations Office (IRO).

IRO receiving hours: Wednesday and Thursday from 9.30 to 12.30 - Via A. di Sangiuliano 197 - 2nd floor

Application procedures 1

Before departure, students must:

  1. check with the IRO of their home university if an Erasmus Traineeship Agreement with University of Catania has been signed.
  2. send an email to the Erasmus Scientific Coordinator of the chosen department in Catania (please see the list in Contacs - right side of this page) in order to get the pre-acceptance letter and the provisional training agreement (please use the forms below);
  3. ask their home university IRO to send an email to n.pascu@unict.it with their nomination for an Erasmus Traineeship mobility together with the pre-acceptance letter from the hosting department;
  4. follow the instructions for mobility procedures received by mail from the IRO; 
  5. fill in the application form available on-line and wait for the IRO official acceptance sent by e-mail;

Arrival procedures 1

As soon as Erasmus Traineeship students arrive in Catania, they must:

  1. go to the IRO, on receiving hours, with two passport-size photos and a copy of the Training Agreement signed by the sending and the hosting structures. They will receive the Student card and all useful information for their stay in Catania;
  2. go to the International Didactic Unit (IDU) of the hosting department in Catania to complete their Training agreement;
  3. go to the host structure in order to start their traineeship. 

Departure procedures 1

At the end of their mobility, students must visit IDU with the following documents: student card; training agreement; tutor's report including dates, working hours, brief description of activities carried out.

The IDU, once checked all documents, will issue a Recongnition Outcomes certificate and will provide it, in a closed envelope, to the student that must then visit IRO in order to complete the procedure and to get the final signature on the Recongnition Outcomes certificate.

In order to obtain these certificates, students must come personally during receiving hours as they are not allowed to delegate other people. On planning their departure trip, students must take into consideration IRO public opening days and hours.

Students are responsible for the envelope that has to arrive undamaged to the International Relation Office of their home university. 


Insurance and medical assistance 1

The University of Catania will take out and insurance policy limited to participation at didactic/formative activities, excluding sport activities, for all incoming students.
Students can benefit from medical assistance only if they have the European Sanitary Card.

Application procedures 2

  3. follow the instructions for mobility procedures received by mail from the IRO.
