Nanomaterials for photocatalytic applications in energy production and environmental protection

The activity will be focused on the development of new nanomaterials to be used in photocatalysis and their applications for hydrogen production and water purification. Catalysts will be prepared and/or modified by laser processes and tested also as layers in PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) inverted fuel cells. We propose also to test the prepared materials dispersing them inside polymeric matrices. The materials will be characterized using various techniques as SEM, RAMAN, IR, XRD, XPS, UV-VIS DRS, etc. This activity involves the laboratories of the University of Catania and the Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems of National Research Council in Catania.
