Course Overview

The degree course is aimed at fostering psychological comprehension and competency, and is characterized by basic elements relating to:

  • experimental and laboratory disciplines, regarding life-span, socialization and work, dynamic and clinical psychology;
  • related sciences, such as neurophysiology, philosophy, pedagogy, sociology disciplines important both for interdisciplinary applications of a psychological profession, and for a better understanding of the human mind, also as for the individual and social behavior.

Through laboratory activities, guided experiences, and stages in external structures, the knowledge and competency acquired are put to the test in practice; all theoretical approaches and methodological criteria are presented to show their applications in diverse areas, such as education, juridical and forensic, rehabilitative, in health practices for individual and social well-being.

A main professional profile is represented by the first-level psychologist, with the possibility of enrolment in Section B of the National Order of Psychologists.

This professional figure (not as main responsible of service- reserved to members of level A of the Order, therefore to second-level graduates) is involved in health, psychology, protection of psychic well-being and prevention of diseases, in varying institutional contexts, including schools, public health systems, private and public entities and organizations.

Specific points of reference for this candidate, as example, regard the following areas:

  • The correct assessment of the processes of learning and socialization in the varying contexts he is involved in;
  • The collaboration with teachers relative to psychological aspects of planning, didactic individualization and experimentation, with reference also to students with handicap or other disabilities.
  • The prevention, assistance, support, promotion, evaluation, and growth in relevant health areas, services available to individuals and families, social-sanitary institutions, mental health institutes, residential and semi-residential assistance structures for young people, the elderly, drug addicts, psychiatric patients, associations and organizations for promoting integration, also with reference to multicultural and multiethnic processes, and relative institutions proposed for meeting the legal needs of both the young and adults.

Job Opportunities

Examples of available professional consulting relative to the areas outlined are:

  • application of qualitative and quantitative instruments appropriate to learning, evaluation, interpretation of results, acquisition of elements for the scholastic and vocational counseling;.
  • construction and application of instruments for behavioral observation;
  • collaboration in analyzing disabilities in life cycles and programming work rehabilitation;
  • collaboration in research and experimentation regarding the quality of psychological intervention and in interpersonal individual and group relations;
  • use of techniques of analysis and psychological evaluation in contexts of one's daily life;
  • support to organizations and group leadership;
  • psychological support and psychosocial rehabilitation.
