Abstract

SUNS (Secure Ubiquitous Networks and Services) is a strategic project that integrates and enhances the outcomes of the PNRR extended partnerships RESTART and SERICS. Its objective is to bring advanced solutions for cybersecurity and next-generation digital networks to operational maturity, particularly in the areas of 5G/6G, industrial IoT, non-terrestrial networks, and edge-cloud infrastructures. SUNS promotes programmable, resilient, and federated infrastructures capable of ensuring service continuity, low latency, and dynamic adaptability in multi-domain environments. In parallel, the project develops integrated cybersecurity technologies for proactive threat detection, secure identity management, data protection, and automated incident response, including in the presence of advanced attacks and risks associated with generative artificial intelligence. These solutions are validated in real-world strategic domains such as healthcare, energy, mobility, and manufacturing, in compliance with emerging standards and European regulations, including NIS2 and eIDAS 2.0. SUNS contributes to national technological resilience by fostering industrial adoption and strengthening digital sovereignty in critical sectors.
