Abstract
HE-LIOS – Heritage Empowerment through Learning, Innovation and Open Systems is a specialized training project aimed at strengthening skills for innovation and sustainability in the cultural heritage sector. The initiative addresses the professional and entrepreneurial development needs of cultural and creative enterprises in Southern Italy, promoting the integration of cultural heritage, technological innovation, environmental sustainability, and territorial development.
The project delivers advanced training, upskilling, and reskilling programs for professionals, cultural operators, businesses, and stakeholders, with a particular focus on digital, managerial, entrepreneurial, and green skills. The training activities address strategic topics such as the digitization of cultural heritage, artificial intelligence, immersive technologies, environmental sustainability, the circular economy, innovative cultural heritage management, and cultural entrepreneurship.
Through seminars, living labs, study visits, and networking activities, HE-LIOS fosters dialogue among universities, research institutions, businesses, and public organizations, contributing to the creation of new professional profiles and the strengthening of an innovation ecosystem focused on the sustainable enhancement of cultural heritage. The project also aims to support the competitiveness of cultural and creative value chains through the transfer of knowledge, methodologies, and innovative solutions.
The University of Catania (UniCT) contributes to the project by providing interdisciplinary scientific expertise, advanced training capabilities, and a well-established network of relationships with the regional productive and institutional ecosystem. Through training activities, knowledge transfer, and dissemination of results, UniCT supports the development of the skills required for the digital and green transition of the cultural sector, fostering the adoption of innovative models for heritage enhancement and management. The University also promotes collaboration among research, businesses, and institutions, supporting the dissemination of best practices and strengthening the innovation capacity of cultural and creative industries.
