Learn by Movies - Home Edition

LbM - Home EditionOur community-based film selection featuring original language films organized by our university this year will be showing them via the online streaming platform from the 20th until the 27th of April.

On Monday the 20th of April at 8:30pm the opening of "Learn by Movies - Home Edition" is coming along with our traditional film review section, previously scheduled for the 30th of March.

Special thanks to Scuola Superiore, the University Language Centre and the Alliance Française for making this possible via Italian distributors such as Valmyn, Wanted, Teodora and OfficineUbu.

The Home Edition line-up for 2020 will include eight films for free, selected from the best international film festivals: one a day for eight days, from Monday the 20th to the 27th of April, always at  8:30pm. There will be six original languages: English, German, Portuguese, Spanish, French and  Macedonian.

It is possible to watch them if you can connect – from 8.30pm to midnight – to the official website, where the movie player will be showing them on any device (smartphone, tablet, computer, smart tv).

“For the past month, we’ve been going through a somewhat surreal situation, with the shutdown of cultural life of empty theatres, museums and cinemas – argues prof. Rosario Castelli, the Rector’s Deputy for Communication and Cultural Events -. That said, it could have been much worse to face up to this emergency without having books to read and movies to watch as a balm to comfort us while staying at home and surviving social distancing overall during the Coronavirus lockdown. After the initial shock, we chose to start a new experience; the stay-at-home restrictions are very tough on us, but watching a good movie can help us relieve self-isolation. So let's keep the spirit of Learn by Movies alive: learning languages while having fun.

No wonder why we chose – continues prof. Castelli – the online platform for Learn by Movies to still happen. It will be a short edition unfortunately our home one which is not the one we had planned for the cinema, although we really hope this one could comfort all of us while staying at home.

There will be, as usual, a list of prestigious titles, innovative authors and extraordinary actors: some of them from the most celebrated film industry. This is how we pay our homage to UNICT, to the city and to all those who have always supported our work up until now and will always do” prof. Castelli concludes.
