Course Overview

Biological Sciences treat the study of living organisms, life forms, and biological phenomena by using varied research methodologies and experimental models, often complexes and innovative.

Based on experimental data, Biology works out hypothesis and theories and provides possible answers to the basic matters about complexity and the transformations of the life forms,  changes and develops, through evolution.

The degree course’s aim is to train professional figure, the Biologist, able to understand the matters of the modern society and their big impact on human live and on the other life forms of Earth.

The study plan, further to a number of curricular teachings, includes practice activity like stages in firms or research centers or biology laboratories. In addition of the curricular activities, the degree course gives others optional training activities (specialized teachings, extra stages, professional seminars) so every student could customize his own plan of study to specific professional sectors (biomedical, environmental, biomolecular, cellular).

Educational Goals

The aims of the degree course in Biological Sciences are oriented to provide a solid basic knowledge on the main areas of the Biology, open to further study and specialization, and to consent a good mastery of the methodologies and technologies inherent to the relevant fields of the scientific investigation, offering an adequate preparation consistent with scientific and technological progress and to know and treat with living organisms properly.

To reach these aims, the Degree Course is organized in such a way that the student gradually attain the theoretical and operational tools for understanding biological phenomena. Indeed, the three years course provide hard basic knowledges in the main areas of the Biology, and specialized competences in different work sectors. This includes curricular teachings, and practical activities allowing the students to acquire all the necessary theoretical and practical expertise for an optimal professional preparation.

Job Opportunities

The graduate in biological sciences can work in many sectors, including (but no restricted to):

  • human health
  • environmental preservation
  • biodiversity conservation
  • biotechnologies applied to human health, forensic biology, human reproduction
  • hygiene, safety and quality
  • biochemical, molecular, genetic, microbiological laboratories

Thanks to these competences, the graduate in biological sciences, can attain the junior professional habilitation (upon passing the relative State Examination).
