Course Overview

The objective of the MA course in Archaeology is to train scholars and personnel in the fields of theoretical and applied archaeological research and of the promotion of monuments and artefacts dating from antiquity to the Middle Ages, covering a geographical area comprising the Mediterranean and the Near East. The course is also designed to give students a thorough knowledge of the languages and cultures of the ancient world and of the historical developments from antiquity to the Middle Ages.

The course takes place in the form of:

  • lessons and seminars (some of which are taught in English)
  • laboratory and practice activities
  • internships at the Monuments and Fine Arts Office, as well as at archaeological parks and museums
  • participation in excavations and reconnaissances of archaeological sites both in Italy and abroad
  • internships at ratified foreign institutions

The course also gives students the choice to attend a double degree curriculum in cooperation with the associated Universities of Warsaw (Poland) and of Konya (Turkey). In such case, students will attend courses at the partner university and will write their dissertation having a supervisor from their home university and a co-supervisor from their partner university. The dissertation will be in English or in another language with a comprehensive summary in English.

Job Opportunities

The MA gives students access to specialisation schools in archaeology, PhDs and second-level master programmes.
