Course Overview

This particular MSc trains high-profile graduate students to be capable of successfully addressing and solving issues concerning the production, distribution, management and efficient use of electricity.

Particular attention is paid to sustainability through renewable and alternative energy sources, storage systems, high-efficiency conversion and control. Training is also focused on how to make an easy transition to electric mobility.

Strong emphasis is placed on core disciplines such as electrotechnics, electrical systems, electrical machines, electrical measurements, prior to upgrading students’ skills with any significant elements of international engagement.

Students will develop plenty of knowledge about electrical engineering, machine operations and electrical systems, in addition to how electrical systems for energy operate along with electrical engineering equipment, planning, electronic and lab instrumentation, electronic power and industrial automation.

A great share of students’ time is devoted to lab experience and fieldwork (especially if project design is part of their chosen curriculum).

Educational Goals

Postgraduates in Electrical Engineering for Sustainable Green Energy Transition must be able to:

  • formulate mathematical models involving production components and/or processes;
  • transfer electricity and use it efficiently as far as energy saving and electromagnetic compatibility are concerned;
  • analyse complex problems and find innovative solutions when dealing with standard innovative electrical systems with distributed energy, dynamic control of networks with FACTS and storage systems;
  • draw up electrical system projects when dealing with either industrial or civil engineering of the public or private sector;
  • make use of remote control and automation methods for grid stability and energy saving;
  • design and use electronic power converters, electrical machines and drives for industrial purposes and mobility applications;
  • design and supervise the construction of systems for electricity production from conventional and alternative sources, for storage, for stationary use and/or electric traction;
  • design and use measurement methods and procedures, and distributed electronic instrumentation;
  • take a multidisciplinary approach and work as a team member for systems design;
  • have knowledge of technical English.
