Mixed teaching at Unict for the first term 2020/21

The new academic year kicked off on October 1st at UNICT where new policies against COVID-19 are being implemented in agreement with the Italian government’s guidelines.

In order for us to assuage a common anxiety towards the growing risk of contagion, mixed teaching is already proving significantly successful for the first term 2020/21. Classes are therefore taking place in blended learning mode, through face-to-face and online encounters simultaneously.

Reservation of seats

In order to guarantee the maximum security as well as the capacity for face-to-face encounters, we operate a rota system to ensure that students attend classes on a regular basis. The seat reservation system allows students to reserve their seats quite easily though the online booking service “Prenotazione lezioni in aula” using their own username and password on the students' section of our website.

Bookings are available from Monday until Wednesday to attend lessons throughout the following week (e.g. bookings can be made from the 5th to the 7th of October for lessons taking place from October 12 to 17; from the 12th to the 14th of October for the lessons taking place October 19 to 24, and so on).

The booking system assigns a seat in the classroom up to the maximum number of seats available (i.e. between 40% and 60% of the ordinary capacity). Once the reservation is made, students will receive a confirmation email. In case of full booking, students will have the chance to reserve a place for the week after on a priority list. They do nothing but confirm their interest and they shall take priority over other requests and everybody else on the list.

Erasmus students

Erasmus students are not required to book online as their place is already booked up in advance.

Online teaching

Students who cannot find a free place in a face-to-face lecture, or cannot leave their homes for health reasons, may easily access the online classes. Online lectures shall be held on the MS Teams Platform. Each course has a virtual classroom identified by a code.

Erasmus students

Erasmus students, currently present in Catania registered at the “Welcome day”, in the event they need, for health reasons, to attend the classes online, must send to the professor of the course a valid email address asking to be included in the virtual classroom as HOST.
