Cultural area and aims
The Department is located in the General Hospital of University in Santa Sofia Street in Catania. It’s the second oldest medical School in the South of Italy, after the Naples University. There is evidence of teaching as far back as the XV century.
At present time in the department of Surgical Science, Organ Transplantation and Advanced Technologies, founded in 2001, there are 40 members, and exactly 11 Full Professors, 5 Associate Professors and 24 Assistant Professors.
The mains clinical activities are: General Surgery, Transplant Surgery Vascular Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Oncological Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, Emergency Surgery and Endoscopy.
Didactics and Research Activities
The Department of Surgical Science, Organ Transplantation and Advanced Technologies offers Specialization Schools (Digestive Surgery, Vascular Surgery, Paediatric Surgery), Specialized Degree (Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Obstetrics), Master’s Programs: (Medicine and Surgery, Health Rehabilitation, Health Technique) and Diagnosis Degree courses (Techniques of Psychiatric Rehabilitation, Dietetics, Physical Education and Sport Sciences, Nursing, Speech Therapy)
