Visiting Students

Visiting Students may attend lectures, write a dissertation and carry out either research or placement activities at the University of Catania.

Undergraduate students may be admitted for study purposes, provided that an agreement with us is already in place. They are more than welcome to spend some time with us for either research or dissertation-related reasons. Placements do generally take place with an admission letter, whereas, as far as an International Internship Placement goes, an agreement is already in place with respective heads of host departments. Students shall be expected to stay with us for a minimum of three months for study purposes and for a minimum of one month for their dissertations and placements.

Postgraduate students may be admitted for study purposes, provided that an agreement with us is already in place. They may spend some time with us for either research or dissertation-related activities. Placements do generally take place with an admission letter, whereas for an International Internship Placement an agreement needs to be signed by the head of host department. Students shall be expected to stay with us for a minimum of three months for study purposes and for a minimum of one month for their dissertations and placements.

Both PhD and Postgraduate Students may carry out a period of study or research provided that an international or a PhD exchange agreement is already in place with us.

Specific rules and procedures shall be applied by respective host departments when launching a tender for mobility according to their priorities.

Prospective Visiting Students who may be interested in our University might want to make sure whether they apply for:

  • for study purposes: please check if the University of Catania has already signed an agreement with your home institution, see if the degree courses you are looking for are available and get in touch with an inside international coordinator for help in regard to subject areas and educational activities of your choice;
  • for research, dissertation or placement: please get in touch with an international coordinator for help and support in regard to either a research subject or a placement programme; students of a PhD and postgraduate mobility are expected to build a bridge between their sending and their host institution through the realisation of a joint programme.
  • for a PhD exchange agreement: please lay out a learning proposal using the activities agreement online form and after having your own sending institution sign it, do send it back to the host department, along with a request for acceptance; doctoral students must also provide a PhD exchange agreement duly signed by their own coordinators.

After receiving the admission letter and the activities agreement form countersigned by the head of host department (the admission letter will also specify the name of your tutor), please fill out the online form attaching the aforementioned documents. In case of placements, the admission letter and the international internship agreement shall have to be provided jointly, in one file only.

Upon arrival, please come and register your presence with us at UDI, the administrative unit dealing with international arrivals.

Towards the end of your mobility, your tutor needs to send a final report in English to UDI (specifying the dates of mobility, the activities carried out, the amount of CFU/ECTS gained). They shall release a Certificate of Attendance for you, thus informing the International Mobility Office (UMI) about the successful completion of your mobility period.
