About University of Catania

Established in the 14th century, University of Catania is engaged in creating a "laboratory" in which the ancient knowledge of the Mediterranean culture meets the new technologies in order to offer an original and advanced training experience. Recipient of research funding at international and national level, it has a long-term involvement in varied research programs, both as a coordinator and/or a partner, encouraging research activities carried out in all departments and providing research grants. The Law School is the oldest one among the twelve Schools of the University of Catania.

It has symbolized, in the past, and still represents both an important point of reference in a rapidly changing world and a centre of excellence for the island's cultural élite, by promoting and by practicing an ethos where research is encouraged and highly evaluated.

It is widely recognized that its reputation for teaching and research dealing with a wide range of legal disciplines in many specialist fields has significantly contributed to the distinctive legal culture in Italy, during the last decades and promises to keep on doing so successfully in the future.

A solid legal education, today, opens up more opportunities ranging over and beyond the classic career paths, the judiciary or the legal professions resulting in new job opportunities in the business world, in legal firms, in the field of international organizations, in journalism and management, in public authorities and in the private field.

The 5 year course "Laurea Magistrale" is meant to provide our students with an in-depth knowledge of the structure of the legal system, but it also aims at allowing them to acquire the tools needed to respond to an extremely competitive and even more "globalized" labour market. Moreover, the courses aim at thinking in European terms since the process of integration affects, at very different speeds, domains such as the productive, economic, financial, legal and social ones. For this reason the University of Catania is strongly committed to implement European Union policies aimed at the development of legal careers and international mobility of researchers.
