Formative objectives and occupational perspectives

The one-year Master is organized around formative objectives and integrated courses, distributed into a two semesters study program; with didactic activities combining distance learning and classroom-based sessions. Attendance to all didactic activity of the Master is compulsory. The didactic activities of the Master begin in November. The Formation includes 60 points credit of formal didactic activity (ADF), optional didactic activity (ADO), professional didactic activity (ADP) and practical technical traineeship. To achieve these formative objectives the Department of Medical and Paediatric Sciences can be affiliated with other Departments where similar II level master courses in MATAM are activated, and institutionally in collaboration with the other 11 seats (www.matam.it).

In just a few decades, emergency medicine (EM) has assumed a leadership role in medical education. Therefore, medical personnel that works in emergency medical sector need to have a legal status as health care professionals. In fact, the vast majority of doctors practising emergency medicine are from other specialties such as Geriatrics, Internal Medicine, Cardiology or from ER in small hospitals. Hence the necessity to guarantee the medical personnel operating in the Emergency Medicine and Surgery Unit (MCAU) of hospitals and in the Territorial Health Emergency  (EST)-118 of provincial hospitals in Sicily Region, a proper academic title that might be registered as a professional emergency medical staff.

Formative objectives and occupational perspectives  

The aim of the Master is to train students of Medicine and Surgery, providing them with a theoretical and practical vision in the field of Ultrasound in Internal Medicine.  Theoretical lessons are given by a team of highly qualified medical ultrasound professors - coming from national schools of excellence - as well as practical training in the area of general ultrasound and various specialties. A theoretical and practical training provides a wide range of experiences in ultrasound check, Doppler and Color Doppler Sonography in: Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Angiology, Endocrinology, Gynaecology, Nephrology, Emergency Medicine; Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in Internal Medicine and Oncology; Endoscopic UltraSonography  in Gastroenterology; Diagnostic Interventional Ultrasound-assisted procedures; Ultrasound-assisted located therapies. Professional trainees with diagnostic-therapeutic competences are requested in numerous medical-surgery areas, in both clinical day hospital and hospital activities. They will be given, in fact, the instruments to become more efficient in the field of preventive medicine and clinical systemic medicine with multidisciplinary approach. The utilization of clinic visit and ultrasound scan to manage the disease, reduces the diagnostic-therapeutic duration consequently saving human and economic resources.
