Research Office

The main goal of the University of Catania is the development of scientific research and the consolidation of competitive positions within national and international scientific fields.

Moreover, great attention is paid to the promotion of financing programmes, the improvement of its “excellence points” in various scientific areas, and the qualification of research training, through a stronger international partnership.
In order to carry out the above mentioned aims, the Research Office is a point of reference for professors, researchers and graduates on matters related to scientific research activities and funding sources.
In particular, the Research Office provides information and advice in the following fields:

  • Regional Research Funds

  • National Research Funds

  • International Research Funds

  • VII Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development

  • Research Scholarships

  • Research Projects Registry (Catalogo di Ateneo)

The Research Office comprises three sections: National and Regional Research section, International Research section and the Research Grants section (dealing with the management of young researchers grants).

The Regional Research unit comprises: the POR Sicily (supports the submission of periodic reports) and other regional calls for research.

The National and Regional Research section supports the activities of professors to obtain the following funds: PRIN, FIRB, Decree Law 297/1999, PON, PNR, “Centres of Expertise”, Law 6/2000 for the dissemination of scientific culture and other national calls for research, Regional Funds of Cultural Department, Environmental and Public Education, POR and other regional research funds.

The International Research section gives consultance and assistance for the submission of applications and for the negotiation and management of projects funded by the following programs: Seventh Framework Programme, LIFE Programme, INTERREG III-A, INTERREG IV-C, Italy-Malta Programme, IINTERREG MED, Programme ENPI (Cross-Border Cooperation – CBC MED), ENPI Italy – Tunisia and other international calls for research.

Moreover, the Research Office manages the “Catalogo di Ateneo”, a list of scientific publications produced by researchers updated every year, which is the main tool for an objective assessment of the scientific activities and the improvement of quality assurance.

The Office also provides administrative support for the Scientific Research Committee of the University of Catania.
