International Cooperation Programmes
According to the Lisbon strategy, emphasizing the creation of a more competitive and dynamic knowledge-based society, international mobility and universities internationalisation may represent a strategic tool for a social, cultural and economic development of a country. They can be considered as a challenge and an opportunity for the involved Higher Institutions to enlarge and enrich their range of the offered courses.
The University of Catania participates in international programmes at EU level, funded and managed by several institutions and authorities such as the EACEA (Education, Audiovisual and Culture Executive Agency) and the EuropeAid (DG Development and Cooperation). Moreover, the University of Catania is also involved in international programmes promoted by Italian institutions, such as the MAE (Ministry for Foreign Affairs) and, jointly, the MIUR and the CRUI (respectively the Ministry of Education, University and Research and the Conference of Italian University Rectors). These programmes involve an increasing number of professors, researchers and students every year.

DG Development and Cooperation – EuropeAid (Website)
Development and Cooperation – EuropeAid is a new European Commission’s Directorate–General (DG) responsible for designing EU development policies and delivering aid through programmes and projects across the world.
It incorporates the former Development and EuropeAid DGs. Having one DG will simplify communication in the development field by acting as a "one stop shop" – providing a single contact point for stakeholders inside and outside the EU to deal with.
Development and Cooperation - EuropeAid reinforces the ability of the EU to design state-of-the-art development policy for all developing countries, and enhances policy coherence for development while further improving implementation and delivery mechanisms. It also defines the future development policy drawing from the objectives of the EU's Green Paper on development policy and contributes to global challenges ahead.
